Conclusion (Critical Analysis)

The following page has been written as an assessment for my own personal management during the creation of this website. It is not beneficial towards any viewers other than those chosen to assess and mark my work.

Throughout the makings of this website, a set criteria was planned in order to guide me through the necessary requirements needed to be met. A crib sheet was created as soon as the assignment was set, however a scheduled time for providing work was not planned.

Inspiration for the website format came from a previous assignment from another subject of study, where I had to create a similar online site available for public use, and used this as my main focus for preparing the website.

Several ideas were made such as creating images that interacted with the text, however the system I used was not able to create such ideas. Instead, I altered the idea into using buttons that transport the reader to various parts of the website using anchors. This was my first experience using anchor system so it took a couple of hours to figure out. They make the navigation of the website much easier, as there are large pockets of writing that the reader may not be interested in travelling through.

Due to working on several separate assignments simultaneously, a time schedule focusing on which assignment to work on per week would have proved useful and possibly assisted in completing work before the formative deadline. Sadly this was not done, and I had instead resorted to a hasty ‘work on what is due first’ basis. Time scheduling was a major drawback within the assignment, and my own negligence caught me with an incomplete assignment by the formative deadline.

Multiple issues occurred with scheduling working on assignments whilst lectures were in session. It took a while to process that there wouldn’t be time to work directly on the assignment during lessons like there had been in college, and I was still adapting to the beginnings of university.  I had however managed my note taking well in class, colour coordinating the most beneficial parts of lectures for the oncoming assignment.

Throughout lecture periods, I was given multiple opportunities to work in the science laboratories in order to conduct some experiments that were considered beneficial towards my food analysis. Instead of simply explaining various methods, I was able to try them out for myself and provide myself with evidence through images and results. Owning various animals with various feeds was also a contributor towards the experiment.

Personal family matters became an issue around October, and caused me a large setback within my assignments. I managed to continue with my work, but not at the pace I would have preferred, which delayed my work further.

My biggest issue within my work is my style of writing; although I’m attempting to reach the criteria of the assigned task, I have a poor habit of creating sentences that could be written in words shorter than I write them. This is a personal problem that I need to fix myself, in order to effectively write academically instead of writing everything as if it is a story. Metaphors and similes are not welcome in a scientific study.

Although a multitude of sources of references were found, and referencing was simple enough to carry out, it took a long period to proof read my writing to make sure it was written to Harvard standards.

In order to progress with my work, my main targets should be focused on writing to academic standard and to set out a work system for effective time keeping.
